Cali’s Road Trip features original photographs that tell the story of Cali, a wild chipmunk who travels to visit all of her children who live and work all around the country! Cali agreed to let Meredith document her adventures for this book.

While children just delight in the imagery of the chipmunk and her children doing daily tasks, adults react to the sense of whimsy and nostalgia and amazement that what they see before their eyes is actually real. Their enjoyment is more about the uniqueness of what they are seeing and the childlike enjoyment they feel as it takes them out of their head for a moment and they have a laugh or a smile.

Meredith Morabito is an artist based in Saugerties NY, and photographs this chipmunk every day when she’s not in hibernation. Cali is completely wild and lives underground near my studio and has been visiting her for several years along with her many children! All photos are original, unedited. She does not use photoshop and has created videos to showcase her process. She builds the scenes/sets and then sits and waits. She finds many of the miniature pieces include at yard sales and makes everything else either out of clay or other materials. Cali and her kids walk into the set, get rewarded with seeds/nuts and then goes back to their dens. She then comes back the next day to do it all over again.
